Dr Nielsen has been practicing in Shelley since 1980. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in Chemistry, Magna Cum Laude before attending dental school at the University of Southern California. He has been active in the community in various capacties including little league baseball coach, Kiwanis Club president and secretary/treasurer for many years. He has directed the fund raising efforts of the Kiwanis Club at the Eastern Idaho State Fair numerous times and has been there to supervise every year since the Scone Booth started. He help establish the Shelley Education Foundation and was Chairman of that organization for three years. Since 1992, Dr Nielsen has been teaching in the Idaho Dental Education Program (IDEP) in Pocatello on Fridays. Over 100 dental students have been introduced to dentistry in his classes. Additionally, he teaches occasionally in the Graduate Residency Program for licenced dentists receiving advanced training. In practice, Dr. Nielsen has focused his practice on the family and has treated patients of all age groups. "Extreme Makeovers" are available as well as simple procedures such as fillings. The "smile you desire and the dentistry you deserve" is what we seek to provide. Dr. Nielsen's teaching as well as advanced education courses for himself provide the opportunity for patients to receive treatment not only with experience, but with new technologies that contribute to excellence in the services he provides. Courses focusing on such things as cosmetics, surgery, implants, gum disease, and complete reconstruction of the mouth help support his focus on excellence. Dr. Nielsen has seven children, all of whom have gone through the Shelley School System. Travis, his oldest son was valedictorian his senior year and went on to school at BYU, completing a degree in computer science. He now works for Microsoft in Seattle, Washington. Karen continued her education at Ricks College and Idaho State, earning her degree in dental hygiene and works one day in our office as a hygienist. Heidi went to Ricks and Boise State and is now living in Ammon with her family. Justin graduated from BYUI and is currenty continuing his education in Philadelphia to become a physician's assistant . Kayla, Ashley, and Cassie are all currently at Shelley HIgh School. |
